Rockettes gives free online dance lessons

For many of us, the interest of keeping our home exercise the cool, fun routines all but evaporated over the many months (or has it been decades? millennia?) instead of doing another round of push ups against the kitchen counter it is much easier to snuggle up on the sofa with one of the millions amazing tv shows that are close at hand at all times.

This month, however, to combat both the holiday blues at home and pandemic-induced anxiety, the Radio City Rockettes are taking to Instagram Live with video instructions on how to do the choreographed dances. from their annual holiday show, “Radio City Christmas Spectacular.”

New live video lessons take place every Wednesday in December (through December 23) at 3 p.m. ET on Rockettes Instagram page (and the videos remain available on Instagram after the live session ends). Each session is typically around 50-60 minutes long and includes a question-and-answer segment at the end.

Classes are a great way for dancers to stay in touch with fans during this unusual holiday period when live performances of the classic Rockettes show were canceled. Rocket Danelle Morgan spoke to Shape about their efforts to keep the holiday joy alive, even if it’s just on Instagram.

“With everything going on in the world right now, it has become apparent that we need to infuse some holiday spirit into the world of social media. ” she told Shape. “It’s been so gratifying that despite not having the Christmas show this year, we were able to bring some holiday cheer and cheer to our fans. “

Some courses are more advanced than others. The Instruction “Christmas Dreams” led by Morgan is one of the more complex dances, although it starts with a good warm-up to help you learn the routine easily. You’ll find a much faster and simpler lesson on how to swing the Rockettes eye-level kicks – as in their iconic punch line – in this short instructional video.

In addition to entering some exercise, classes can provide a happy distraction from today’s gloomy world.

“Times are tough right now, and it’s important to take a moment for yourself,” Morgan told Shape. “You have to find that joy, which can mean dancing alone in your apartment, pretending to be a Rockette. You have to move away mentally and live a little sometimes.
