Elite Ballroom Academy dancers have carved their way to success at recent national and world championships.
Jamie Barrett is the owner of Elite Ballroom Academy and said it was the only studio in the area to compete at such a high level.
“I opened the studio six years ago because I wanted that level of instruction that I saw offered in big cities,” Barrett said. “Columbia, SC is now on the map and we’ve only just started.”
Elite Ballroom Academy picked up a World Championship victory in Los Angeles, California. The competition ran from August 31 to September 4, and the academy won the World Dance 10 title. They were led by instructor Stefano Placidi, from Rome, Italy.
The academy had great success at the national championships, soon after competing at the world championships. The United States Dance Championships took place September 6-10 at Walt Disney World. Barrett won the National 10 dance title and another member won the Latin Rising Stars Championship. Elite Ballroom Academy had finalists in the Ballroom, Latin, and Sweetness Championships.
According to Barrett, there are ballroom dancing competitions every weekend across the country, but the national and world championships are the only ones with a title.
“These are big events with hundreds of competitors taking place over several days,” Barrett said. “I’m very proud that our studio, despite being very young, has always ranked well at every event we attend.”
