LARPD offers social dance lessons | Community News


A new session of social dance classes begins Thursday evening January 9 at the Veteran’s Building in downtown Livermore, offered by the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District (LARPD).

Joallyn Bohn, professional ballroom and social dance instructor, will teach beginner rumba starting at 7:15 p.m. The session runs on four consecutive Thursdays, ending January 30, and costs $ 48 for residents, $ 53 for non-residents. Those who wish to further develop their skills can take the Level 2 rumba session for 4 weeks in February starting at 8:15 p.m. Bohn describes rumba as “the dance of love. A slow, rhythmic and trendy Latin style dance. Easy to learn the basics and great fun. A very popular dance on the social dance floor.

Bohn teaches two classes every Thursday, a beginner class and a level 2 class. Level 2 classes are always a continuation of the classes from the beginning of the previous month and start at 8:15 pm. The next level 2 course is the Viennese Waltz, for those who already have experience in the basics of dance. In February she will teach Beginning Tango, in March West Coast Swing and in April Foxtrot.

Partners are recommended but not required. Shoes with smooth soles are recommended.
