End the summer with a long outdoor weekend at Le Marin

Summer is not over yet. Enjoy the sun, sand, and surf this year (and maybe even stop for some shopping) in Marin County, where you’ll have your pick of activities.

From horseback riding to stargazing, you’re in for a treat. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy a long weekend in Marin…even if you’re planning last minute.

Try a new sport.

Just because it’s a holiday weekend doesn’t mean local attractions are closed. In fact, any long weekend is the perfect time of year to try something new, especially a hobby or sport. Five Brooks Rancha full-service stable, offers a fun activity for the whole family and a scenic way to find the best views of Point Reyes National Shoreline.

Never kayaked and looking for adventure? Let Kayaking on blue waters take you on a learning tour of Drake’s Estero. This is one of the most amazing places to paddle on the California coast. Beginner kayakers are welcome.

Treat yourself to honey and mead.

Once a month, Heidrun Meadery organize a special Flute Flower beekeeping experience until October. Put on a beekeeping suit and head to the apiary on September 11 for a hands-on inspection of working hives. Learn how honey is made into mead, then relax as you taste the best mead ever. If that’s not your thing, bring your friends and family for a picnic or get wet after a refreshing hike in the nearby national park. Enjoy a guided tasting of exceptional sparkling meads or simply order a bottle on ice for intimate seating on the terrace. Essential Tasting flights are available seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Buy till you drop.

Calling all souvenir lovers! The towns of Marin are a colorful representation of local culture, with each neighborhood shopping district more characteristic than the previous one. Every day you’ll find a bit of everything: antiques, fine art, unique crafts, handmade gifts and home furnishings. Works of art downtown in San Rafael is a good place to start as it includes four galleries, 28 studios, a guild of jewelers, and more. You can even see several artists working on their latest creations.

Strawberry Village in Mill Valley is a favorite spot for discerning shoppers, and for good reason. There are home and decor stores, specialty shops, wellness shops, spas and salons, and restaurants with alfresco dining options. Shop for souvenirs and local produce in the morning, then recharge over an organic lunch.
